Aleš Vlk ranked third in the Competition of Scientific Papers of Young Physicists for the Milan Odehnal Prize 2024. The award ceremony took place at a meeting of the physics department of the Prague branch of the Union of Czech Mathematicians and Physicists on 16 October 2024 at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University in Prague.
The paper by Aleš Vlk from the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences and the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague focused on the study of the optical properties of halide perovskites. His research contributes to a better understanding of halide perovskites – materials with unique optical properties that have broad potential for photovoltaics and optoelectronics. He submitted three scientific publications to the competition, which impressed the jury with the quality of the high-impact journals in which they were published, the contribution to the field and the international collaboration in which the publications were produced.
"It's nice to have your work recognised, but science is a team discipline and this award belongs to our whole group and everyone involved in the research," says the award-winning physicist.
The competition, organised by the Czech Physical Society of the Union of Czech Mathematicians and Physicists, attracted fourteen young scientists under the age of thirty who submitted exceptional scientific papers in various fields of physics. The level of the competition was very high, as evidenced by the jury's decision to award four honorable mentions in addition to the three main prizes.
