Instructions for Access to Electronic Resources
Using the Library EZProxy
server
For help or questions about using
EZProxy, contact us: Mrs. Zuzana Lisková
(liskovazbiomed.cas.cz) or
proxy server administrator Mr. J. Vilím
(vilimbiomed.cas.cz).
What
is the EZProxy server
- EZProxy
is specific software, developed by Useful Utilities,
which is used for configuration of the Library
proxy server, which identifies:
- EZproxy links
include the string "http://d360prx.biomed.cas.cz"
- The
licenced e-resources - accessible via these
Library's web
sites:
- variants of re-routing to the Library EZproxy server
Notice:
- if you have difficulties to
open a specific article through proxy server
and a password or fee is required, then you may try to open the article:
- that is not
part of library subscripton (available e- resources)
or it may be back issues of a journal (not all
archives are available)
- these ACS and OUP journals are
available only from IP address of the Institute of
Microbiology - more information at Ivan Janda,
ex. 2325
- other
problems with using e-resources
The
licenced e-recources are available from :
- on- Krč
campus access -
computers in campus network (automatic
redirecting)
- login is not required
- if you are on Krč Campus,
your computer's address (IP address) will be recognized automatically, and you will
have direct access
- = authentication by a
computer IP address
- off-campus Krč access (remote
access) - authentication by username and password - only for SIC´ internal users
- if you are NOT using
a Krč Campus computer
(off- campus =
remote access), you need to authenticate
yourself as a valid user of e-resources in order
to connect to the
resource
- if
you are off campus, you will be required to login (the same as your
e-mail account in the Krč Campus) - you
enter into the log-in
boxes:
- user name = your user
name before
of biomed.cas.cz
or
img.cas.cz
- password
= your password
- for new e-mail box contact: IT
for Krč Campus (domain biomed.cas.cz)
or IT
for IMG (domain img.cas.cz)
- if you are working in some
institute of the Krč Campus only.

1)
Redirecting
to the
Library EZproxy server use
ready redirecting
references |
- If you need to
open specific e-resource (journal e.g.)
- To access licenced resources
using EZproxy you need to click on the links marked
as [full text, full access] =
access via proxy on these SIC Web sites:
2)Redirecting
to the Library
EZproxy server adding
the EZproxy prefix http://d360prx.biomed.cas.cz:2048/login?url=
to the beginning of an existing URL of resource |
- This way is acceptable in
the case of opening a particular article (citation),
DOI (unique IDs for online articles), e-mail alerts from journals
etc., (alternatively library bookmarklet can
be used in this case too):
- open an article
in your browser
- add the prefix http://d360prx.biomed.cas.cz:2048/login?url=
before of URL resource (URL of article
e.g.)
Example:
Cleo M. Salisbury and
Benjamin F. Cravatt
Activity-based probes for
proteomic profiling of histone deacetylase complexes
PNAS 2007 104: 1171-1176.
URL:
http://www.pnas.org/cgi/reprint/104/4/1171
URL when using EZproxy, the
URL for this article:
http://d360prx.biomed.cas.cz:2048/login?url=http://www.pnas.org/cgi/reprint/104/4/1171
3) Redirecting
to the Library
EZproxy server using the SIC bookmarklet. |
(Bookmarklet
is a short piece of javascript code, embedded in a browser bookmark. The
JavaScript is executed when the bookmark is selected.)
Installation instructions for the SIC
bookmarklet:
- In
Internet Explorer: right
click right button of mouse on this "Library
Bookmarklet" link and select
"Add to Favorites". You might see a security alert that the "favorite
may not be safe", although it is. Click "yes" to continue.
- In
Mozilla/Firefox: right click
on the
"Library
Bookmarklet" link and select "Bookmark
This Link", or click and drag the link to your "Bookmarks" toolbar.
Note:
This is compatible with most web browsers and platforms as long
as your bookmarks or favorites allow javascript. The links toolbar may
not be visible in all setups and in most browsers, you can enable it in
the View->Toolbar menu of your web browser. You can also put it in
your bookmarks instead of the links toolbar.
- Once
the bookmarklet is in your browser's toolbar, you
should be able to gain access to restricted resources at the
click of a button.
Once you are on a page that is restricted, click on
the "library
bookmarklet" in your browser's toolbar (in the same window),
and
you will be redirected through the library's proxy server
for the page
you are currently at.
- if resource is subscribed
- then the url of resource of article will be open
- if resource is free
(= not included at proxy server) - then it is possible to open it
without using item, generally it depends on the level of subscription,
it means e.g.by level " abstract"

- Document formats
used in electronic resources
- PDF
(Portable Document Format)
- PDF provides a facsimile of
the print version of an article and it is
the best format to use if you want to print the
article.
- If you want to
look at PDF files from computer then you may need to install the
Adobe Acrobat Reader software on this computer. You can download this
for free from the Adobe
web site.
- HTML
- This format lets you look at
the article as a web page. It allows you
to link to different parts of the article and, sometimes, to cited
articles.
- However, it is not
recommended if you want to print the
article.
