11th Hieracium workshop 2010
Scope
Hieracium workshops have a long tradition. Over the years, their scope has broadened continuously. Meanwhile this intricate group is being addressed from the taxonomic, morphological, floristic, biogeographic, cytological, reproductive, population genetic, ecological, phylogenetic, genomic, and evolutionary point of view. Consequently, Hieracium studies are now being extended to closely related genera. Ongoing research has already provided interesting new insights, and newly emerged collaborations promise a deeper understanding of some principles and processes underlying the speciation, geographic distribution, genome size variation, reproduction, and evolutionary potential of this group. The presentation of results obtained from individual studies during the last few years shall enable the participants to keep track of these developments and to benefit from complementary studies. The meeting will also be a good opportunity to learn from experts specialized in different fields, to establish collaborations, or to extend existing ones. Presentations of running and envisaged projects shall help to keep the Hieracium community up to date with the newest developments and to avoid duplicate work or unnecessary competition.
Workshop venue
The workhop will take place at the Institute of Botany in Průhonice, a village about 10-15 km outside of Prague. Its castle and large English style landscape park of about 250 hectares provide a marvellous setting. The institute’s Visitors's Centre is located in the castle and will be a comfortable and modern environment for talks, poster presentations, discussions, and the study of herbarium specimens. The place is easy to reach by car or by public transport from Prague. Accommodation, restaurants, shops and banks are within short walking distance (maps)
