Ve svém výzkumu využívám ryby pro studium obecných procesů v populační, behaviorální a evoluční ekologii. Hlavním objektem zájmu je pohlavní výběr, evoluce párovacích systémů a jejich role ve speciaci. V současné době se zaměřuji na studium (1) pohlavního výběru, reprodukčních a životních strategií jednotlivců a jejich důsledcích na populační úrovni u hořavek, (2) koevoluční dynamiky mezi hořavkami a jejími hostiteli - sladkovodními mlži, (3) speciací u afrických ryb rodu Nothobranchius, (4) demografickými parametry, ekologií a biogeografií halančíka Nothobranchius furzeri a (5) ekologií společenstev afrických ryb. Terénní práce probíhají v Evropě, Asii (Čína, Japonsko, Turecko) a Africe (Senegal, Mozambik).
