How To Get Here

J. Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry is situated in the northern part of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, in a small campus together with other research institutes (see the map of Prague and its part covering the campus and its neighborhood). Five minutes' walk from the Institute is also hotel Mazanka, where guests of the Institute are often accommodated. To get here you can use taxi or public transport (see the scheme of metro and tram lines).

Travelling by taxi in Prague

The price per kilometer which must be printed on both sides of the taxi and also inside the car on the front panel, may vary car by car. In any case it should be somewhere between Kč 17,- and Kč 25,-. There is also an "embarkment fee" (just that you enter the car) in the range of Kč 15,- to Kč 30,-.

The distance between the airport and the Institute is about 26 km, between the Main Railway station and the Institute it is about 11 km. What might confuse many taxi drivers is that Dolejskova street (the official address of the Institute) is in fact only a piece of sidewalk. To avoid troubles, tell the driver that the Institute is at the end of the street Pod vodárenskou věží (see the map).

Another type of transport from or to the airport is a sort of shuttle service that is run by a private company. They use white vans (Volkswagen Transporter) for a maximum of seven passengers on the fixed route Airport - Náměstí Republiky (Square of the Republic) in the city center (metro Náměstí Republiky, line B). The vans depart in the day-time every 30 minutes or immediately when they are full. The fare is Kč 90,- per person.

Public transportation in Prague

The public transport network in Prague covers the whole city. You can use metro, trams or buses (click to get more information about fares and tickets). The general advice for those who get lost in the city is to find the nearest tram or bus stop and check on the schedule which direction to take to get to a metro station. There are three metro lines in Prague: A (green line), B (yellow line) and C (red line). The lines cross each other at stations Museum (A-C), Můstek (A-B) and Florenc (B-C) (see the public transport scheme). To get to the Institute you should go with line C to station Ládví. Mount stairs and follow the arrows "Bus Prosek Ďáblice". When you come out on the street go about 150 meters to a crossroad with traffic lights, turn to the left and you will already see the high beige building of the Institute.

Using public transportation from the airport
To use public transport to come to the Institute from the airport will probably be a bit uncomfortable, especially if you have a lot of luggage, but adventurous characters may enjoy it. First, buy ticket at the slot machine located near the exit (you will travel more than one hour, so buy the appropriate ticket). In front of the airport hall find the bus stop and take the bus number 119 (usually it is long, red and noisy). This brings you to the terminal metro station Dejvická (line A - green), from there take metro to the station Museum. There change for line C (red) and go four stations to the terminus Ládví. In the preceding paragraph are instructions what to do next.

Using public transportation from the Main Railway station
It is much easier to travel from the Main station (Hlavní nádraží) than from the airport. Entrances to the metro (line C) are in the lower station hall. Use either of the two entrances to the metro trains with destination Ládví, and then follow instructions given above.
