Acropolis of the Závist Hillfort in the 6th - 4th century BC

dr. P. Drda – 2002-2004

A complex study is proposed of a unique sacral space, discovered during the 1963 - 89 archaeological investigations at the National Cultural Monument of Závist in Central Bohemia. The well documented vertical as well as horizontal stratigraphy in the most important part of the Early La Tene hillfort can be used as a basis for the definition of principal development stages of the specific and architectonically organized area. A detailed analysis of the complex of structures and finds is essential for the interpretation of characteristics of the sacral precinct and its cultural relationship, namely to the Mediterranean world. The project will contribute to the recognition of diverse aspects of the Early La Tene period in Bohemia including religion and spirituality.
