I use fishes as model systems to study general processes in population, behavioural and evolutionary biology. My principal interests are sexual selection, evolution of mating systems, and their roles in speciation. Currently, I focus on studies on (i) sexual selection, mating and life history tactics and their population consequences in the bitterling fishes, (ii) the coevolutionary dynamics between bitterling and their mussel hosts, (iii) speciation in Nothobranchius annual fishes, (iv) demography, ecology and biogeography of Nothobranchius furzeri and (v) general ecology of African fishes. Fieldwork is conducted in Europe, China and Africa. For more information see my personal webpage with full publication list including PDFs.
