PhD Theses
Early stage researcher (PhD student)
to work on:
Investigation of the molecular basis of transport-related high osmotolerance
in nonconventional yeast species
Description of the project: In the frame of the CORNUCOPIA International Training Network, funded by the EU "Yeast biodiversity as a source of innovations in food and health", there is a position available for an early stage researcher (less than 4 years of experience after obtaining the Master degree) at the Institute of Physiology, Academy of Sciences CR in Prague for 3 years. The researcher will search for transporters that ensure special properties of the non-conventional yeast species with the aim to further understand the genetic basis of related phenotypes. The project will be executed in close collaboration with a number of other Cornucopia partners and will include physiological and genomic screening, cloning and heterologous expression of identified genes in S. cerevisiae, molecular and biochemical analyses and bio-informatics. A possibility for simultaneous PhD study at the Charles University in Prague is guaranteed.
Requirements: We are looking for a strongly motivated candidate from a country other than the Czech Republic with an interest in functional aspects of yeast biodiversity. Applicants should have experience with recombinant DNA technology and other molecular biology methods. Experience with yeast molecular genetics and/or physiology is an advantage. As this project will be executed in close collaboration with other partners in Cornucopia, some parts of the project will be done in different laboratories, thus travel flexibility is required.
Duration: 3 years (one year prolongation possible to finish PhD studies started within the project).
Salary: Above average, paid by EU, besides the salary, travel allowance and mobility allowance are guaranteed.
