Local application of capsaicin prevents development of hyperalgezia in experimental model of surgical pain. Paw withdrawal latency to thermal stimulus is significantly shorter after incision under control conditions (blue line). With capsaicin skin pretreatement 24 hours before the incision, the development of hyperalgezia is highly attenuated (red line).
