Research Fields: Solar magnetic and velocity fields global, as well as local, dynamics of their changes in relation to various solar global and local activity phenomena and their geoactivity.

1949 - graduated from the Charles University at Prague.
1950 - 1950: RNDr, Charles Univ. Prague.
1955 - 1958 - Crimean Astrophysical Observatory (PhD study).
1960 - PhD State University, Moscow.
1964 - Mt. Wilson and Mt. Palomar Observatories (UNESCO and Carnegie Inst. Scholarships), Pasadena.
1967 - DSc., State Univ. Moscow.
1975 - Corresponding member the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences.
1972-1980 - scientific secretary, 1980-1983 - vice-chairman of the Czechoslovak Commission Interkosmos.
1963 - member, 1976 - 1989 chairman of the Advisory Board for Astronomy and Geophysics of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences.
1960 - Member of the International Astronomical Union, 1974-1986 - Member of the Executive Committee, vice-president and president of the 10th Commission - Solar Activity.
1972-1979 - Czechoslovak delegate in the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the U.N. Committee for the Cosmic Space Exploitation.
1980 - Member of the International Academy of Astronautics.
1988 - Foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
1967 - member, 1998 honorary member of the Editorial Board of Solar Physics.
Since 1948 at the Astronomical Institute (State Observatory).
1970-1987 - deputy chief and chief of the Solar department.
1968-1975 - deputy director, 1975-1990 - director of the Astronomical Institute.
1953, 1967 - Prize of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences.
1961 - Czechoslovak State Prize.
Medals of various scientific institutions home and abroad.
2007 - Honorary Member of the Czech Astronomical Society.
2007 - Emeritus of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.
Author or co-author of more than 380 scientific papers.
