Welcome at the Czech www page about the international journal Astronomy and Astrophysics (A&A)

The purpose of this site is to encourage astronomers working in the institutions in the Czech Republic to choose the journal Astronomy and Astrophysics for publishing their scientific results.

The journal was created as a community non-commercial project of European astronomers, as can be understood from the paper "The history of the creation of Astronomy and Astrophysics" by S. R. Pottasch, which I recommend to read. The journal is financially supported by sponsoring countries, who contribute to the budget proportionally to their economical strength. The journal is not owned by its publisher. The publisher is selected by the Board of directors for a limited time period.

Publishing in this journal is free of charge for astronomers working in institutions located in sponsoring countries. Since the Czech Republic is a sponsoring country (the whole fee is paid by the Astronomical Institute Ondřejov), everybody from the Czech Republic may publish in this highly impacted journal (5.565) for free.

Papers have to be written in English. After papers are accepted for publication, they are sent to a language editor, who suggests language improvements. This is a significant help for authors, who are not native English speakers, which is a common case in institutes in the Czech republic.

Open access: Authors may submit manuscripts of their papers to arXiv with no restrictions, mapping between A&A and arXiv is done automatically after paper is published. In addition, all papers are in open access starting one year after the publication date.

Publication of your high quality results in A&A will further increase the quality of the journal and its impact.
