Today the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences has announced the Nobel Prize for Physics will go to Alain Aspect, John F. Clauser and Anton Zeilinger. Their victory is unexpected but utterly deserved: All three laureates have made a substantial contribution to significant scientific progress in several ways.
FZU – Researchers’ Night experienced through all our senses. We thank you all who tasted our offer, smelled the sweet odour of science, touched the Philosopher‘s stone, listened for the call of cosmic distances and became stunned and speechless for a moment at the wonders of the natural world.

This year’s photography competition named The Charm of Physics is now open – apart from the current and former FZU employees – to high school students. Each contestant can submit up to 5 photos. The submission deadline is 31 October 2022.
A levitating train and a non-newtonian fluid became the comeback hits of this year’s Different City Experience festival. The two succeeded in the tough competition of seductively smelling pancakes and coffee served by a local bistro, they had been arranged primarily for children by the Institute of Physics.
Today the Honorary Medals have been handed over by the president of the Czech Academy of Sciences Eva Zažímalová. The recipients were 11 researchers honoured for their long-lasting contribution to science by the Czech Academy of Sciences. The laureates included two researchers from the Institute of Physics, prof. Jiří Chýla, CSc. and prof. RNDr. Ivan Pelant, DrSc.

Coilgun, observation and processing of miner planet occultation using CMOS cameras or determination of the atomic structure of surfaces using ion scattering - these are the winning works in the field of physics of the 44th year of the national showcase of high school scientific activities. The students were presented their awards by the FZU director Michael Prouza and his deputy Antonín Fejfar.
A team of secondary school students, representing the Czech Republic under the auspices of the Jaroslav Heyerovsky Institute of Physical Chemistry in Prague, has won the silver medal at the 35th year of the International Young Physicists’ Tournament held in Timisoara, Romania, earlier this year. In a tough international competition, they came second, losing only to the German team, following five demanding rounds.
Five years ago the researcher Barbora Špačková moved to Sweden to take up a postdoc position at the Chalmers University of Technology where she developed a unique imaging method called nanofluidic scattering microscopy using which she can see, as she puts it, “things that nobody else has ever seen before”.
