The laboratory aims at fundamental and applied research of biological diversity, and its conservation and management in distinct important and protected habitats (under the 92/43/EEC „Habitats Directive“) ocurring in the Czech Republic. These studies are conducted with respect to biological monitoring of favourable conservation status and, in contrast, influences of anthropogenic impact such as the global climate change in the European region. In plant populations we study the reproductive capacity of plants and seed ecology. In zoology we are focused to the ethology, ecology and ecotoxicology of mammals. We use etho-ecological (capture-mark-recapture) methods as well as genetic ones (evaluation of microsatellite loci) as well as the analysis of metapopulation dynamics of insect pests and their predators and of endangered plant species. In habitats we focuse to the ecology of cool scree paleorefugia.
