Research
Research activities of the working group of biodiversity are focused to population biology of natural populations of small terrestrial mammals inhabiting underground habitats, particularly their genetic diversity in disjunct fragmentary anthropogenic landscape, to elucidate impact of landscape fragmentation on this ecological group of mammals.
Taxonomy, biogeography and ecology of the predatory soil mites of the family Rhagidiidae (Acari, Prostigmata) in the worldwide context and their practical use as indicators of change of environmental conditions, particularly in cave, alpine and cool scree paleorefugia, are studied as well.
Introduction of methods of molecular taxonomy and phyllogeography to study interpopulation genetic divergence and within-population diversity in the studied organisms are hot
topics of the present tasks of the laboratory.
